2:30-3:30 PM: Micro-Aggression Role Play
Micro-Aggression Role Play is an hour-long happening and discussion that introduces micro aggressions inadvertently and commonly made during art critiques at Pratt by professors, and students alike. Participants are asked to role play scripted (and anecdotally derived) micro-aggressions. By reenacting the words of these micro-aggressions, what can we understand about how micro-aggressions affect student learning, the dynamics of the”classroom” or critique, and the type of (art)work that is created in this context?
Further discussion of this will lead to ways in which we can help shape a more culturally competent and sensitive faculty and student body on the campus of Pratt.
Facilitators:
Mirland Terlonge, Assistant to the Chairperson of Art and Design Education, Pratt Institute
Joe Poon, MFA Student of Fine Arts, Pratt Institute
Location: Higgins Hall South 111
